“Find Value in Yourself”: Viviana Conejo’s Graduation Story

For Class of 2026 graduate Viviana Marie Conejo, graduation is proof of just how much can change with time, perseverance, and the courage to keep moving forward. After choosing online school in part because of struggles with anxiety and mental health, Viviana reached a milestone she once may not have imagined: standing on stage in front of hundreds of people and sharing her story. Her message to fellow graduates is one of self-worth, growth, and learning to see challenges not as definitions of who we are, but as lessons that can help shape where we go next.

Graduation Speech by Viviana Marie Conejo, Class of 2026

Hi, my name is Viviana Marie Conejo.

I’d like to begin by congratulating my fellow graduates, welcoming our proud families, friends, and guests, and, of course, thanking our teachers as we celebrate this new beginning and look ahead to the future that awaits us.

I’m sure we’ve all been told at least once, “It’ll go by fast.” At the time, you think it’s just an old saying people tell you so you don’t think too much about how long you have left to go. Then, you blink.

I know, for most of us, it feels like yesterday we were putting on our best outfits for the first day of high school. And then, all of a sudden, today we’re putting on our caps and gowns for our last.

We’ve all had bad days, and we’ve all gone through difficult times. But to appreciate the good days and the good moments, we have to overcome the challenging ones.

Don’t let the bad experiences keep you waiting for the next bad thing to happen. Instead, look forward to the good things that can come from them and the lessons they can teach you. And know that the mistakes you make are meant to guide you, not define you. So when you look back at those mistakes or difficulties, look back at the lessons they taught you.

To the younger people in the audience who have yet to graduate, or to anyone who feels like they still have a long way to go, trust me when I say it will go by fast. So make the most of it! Yes, there will be mistakes, but focus on the positives learned from the negative experiences. Everything is a learning experience. Make sure to be kind to yourself and others along the way.

One of my main reasons for choosing online school was because of my mental health issues, something I’ve struggled with for years. I had terrible anxiety and wouldn’t go anywhere if I knew there would be a lot of people. I now stand here on this stage in front of hundreds of people, giving my speech.

I’ve always felt different, like I wasn’t normal because of my mental health issues. Not many people know this. But I tell you because I once heard this quote, and it’s stuck with me ever since: “If you don’t fit into the crowd, it means your place is on stage.”

What it means is that some of us might feel out of place or different, and that may be a sign you were meant to stand out and lead rather than blend in. If you feel out of place, like you are not valued where you are, find a different place, and let that place be somewhere your presence is valued. Everyone has value, but not everyone is in the right place.

But most importantly, find value in yourself, because if you recognize your own value, it will help you succeed wherever your road takes you.

You should also know that if you ever feel as if you are behind, like you aren't on time, know that with God every place is the right place and every time is the right time.

As graduates, we’re all about to step into different paths and different places. Some of us will fit in right away, and some of us won’t. And to the people who feel different, who don’t fit in right away: you are the ones who end up making the biggest impact.

Finding Your Way at Success

Viviana’s story is a powerful reminder that success does not require everyone to follow the same path or move at the same pace. Sometimes, finding the right environment can give students the space and confidence they need to recognize their own strengths. At Success Virtual Learning Centers of Michigan, students are encouraged to keep learning, keep growing, and keep moving forward in ways that work for them. For Viviana, graduation represents more than earning a diploma. It is a moment to recognize how far she has come and to step into the future knowing her value.
